1. What is a VPD EEPROM?
VPD is a device designed to store information about PCIe SSD as shown in "Table 1".

VPD is a device that connects to the SSD controller and the host via SMBus. Users can write/read information and data via SMBus.
VPD EEPROMs are particularly in demand for multi-part PCIe SSDs, where interconnected information is becoming more complex.

2. ABLIC's VPD EEPROMs
ABLIC's VPD EEPROMs support the development of PCIe SSDs for data centers, servers and high-end PCs.
By using ABLIC VPD EEPROMs, the following is possible:
- Enhance thermal throttling performance (S-585AA)
- Using a built-in ±0.25℃ typ. high-accuracy digital temperature sensor.
- Using a built-in SMBus ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) function support for Hot-plug* via SMBus.
- With a 1.7V min low-voltage operation.
*Hot-plug: a mechanism that allows devices to be connected or faulty components to be replaced while the system is operational.
What is SMBus ARP (Address Resolution Protocol) function?
The SMBus ARP is a function that allows a HOST to assign arbitrary addresses to target devices using the SMBus; this allows for easy SSD adding.
